Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities Huffman Road Reconstruction Project
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities completed ahead of schedule last fall a $15 million project to alleviate vehicle congestion, enhance safety and capacity, provide turning lanes for vehicles, and improve pedestrian facilities near the rapidly growing Hillside area of Anchorage. By completing the work last fall, Alaska DOTPF limited traffic delays to one construction season.
Alaska DOTPF's rehabilitation of Huffman Road extended from the Old Seward Highway through the New Seward Highway and continued toward the Hillside through Lake Otis Boulevard to Wagner Street.
Work included improving the high-volume roadway and adjacent asphalt and gravel multiuse pathways, enhancing drainage, installing new curbs and gutters, making ramps compliant with American with Disabilities requirements, posting new signs, and restriping traffic lanes. Three new roundabouts, which replaced traffic signals, were also constructed.
